Mum's charity saving lives after 13-year-old daughter tragically took her own life

A heartbroken mum whose daughter took her own life wants to save others from a similar fate.

Pauline Moriarty, originally from Ayr, knows all too well the pain and suffering of mental health after her daughter Jenna took her own life on June 11, 2013.

She was just 13.

Now Pauline has set up charity Beautiful Inside & Out (SCIO) to support others and potentially save lives.

She said: “Following the tragic suicide of my beautiful 13-year-old daughter Jenna, we found that there were many gaps in the system in terms of support for bereaved families of suicide victims and for troubled people.

“I decided that I could either lay down and die or I could do something about it, so I decided to do something about it by setting up Beautiful Inside & Out (SCIO).

“We raise awareness in schools and other organisations with a view to potentially saving lives.

“We organise and fund counselling, play therapy, music therapy and drama therapy for individuals, as well as groups in Ayrshire and all over Scotland.

“People can contact us through our Beautiful Inside & Out (SCIO) facebook page, or by e-mailing beautifulinsideandoutscio@gmail.com or by phoning 07984 328808.

Stephen Brown, director or Health and Social Care – North Ayrshire, said: “Every suicide is a tragedy and NHS Ayrshire & Arran and the three local Health and Social Care Partnerships (HSCP) are working hard to reduce the number of suicides across Ayrshire.

“Everyone has a part to play in suicide prevention.

"Just asking someone if they are ok can go a long way to help them gain perspective on their distress.

For people affected by suicide, organisations such as Touched by Suicide Scotland and Beautiful Inside and Out provide support and help.

“If you are experiencing mental health concerns, contact your GP in the first instance or NHS 24 on 111 when your GP practice is closed.”
