Mum’s brutal injuries after being beaten near her home and ‘left in pool of blood’

Thugs pounced on a vulnerable mum on her doorstep and battered her so badly she needed hospital treatment for injuries including a broken cheekbone.

Andrena Wright, 40, collected a Chinese takeaway on the evening of Sunday, November 7, but was ambushed by attackers in what her family believe was a targeted assault.

Mum-of-two Andrena had only returned home to Milton, Glasgow, earlier that day after staying with her own mother.

She was left lying in a pool of blood before stumbling into the house and livestreaming the aftermath of the attack on Facebook.

Her daughter, Megan Wright, 23, was on holiday in Spain when she saw the footage on social media.

Friends and family who watched it rushed to the house and dialled 999, and Andrena was taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

She is now under mental health supervision at Leverndale Hospital.

Megan, who works as a dental nurse, said: "I don't think my mum quite understands what's happened.

"The attack resulted in a broken cheek bone and blood in her urine.

"She wouldn't hurt anyone, that's why this was so unexpected.

"We believe it was two people.

"I went to our house last night after returning home from Spain to collect some clothes and I'm terrified to be there, it doesn't feel safe at all anymore."

Andrena's brother, Johnnie Wright, 33, said: "She isn't confrontational at all, so when she was being attacked, we all know she wouldn't have fought back, which makes it so much harder.

"We want to get my sister the justice she deserves.

"She's not a harm to anyone, she's such an affable person.

"She's a lot more likeable than I am.

"She'd speak to anyone - whether you were Bill Gates or the poorest person in the world."

A spokesman for Police Scotland said: "At around 7.55pm on Sunday, November 8 2020, we received a report that a 40-year-old woman had been seriously assaulted in Haywood Street, Glasgow.

"The woman was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to facial injuries sustained.

"Inquiries are ongoing."
