Mum's amazing IKEA trick to stop her children waking up too early

A mum has come up with a genius IKEA hack to teach her children when it is and isn’t the right time to wake up in the morning.

It is every parents nightmare - you’re longing for a 'lie in' only for one of the kids to use your bed as a trampoline.

But Megan Gough has come up with a cheap and easy way to teach her kids about the time and when its appropriate to wake the adults up in the house, reports Chronicle Live .

The mum-of-three bought a plain white clock from IKEA and painted in different sections around it.

Before half six is considered the red zone - meaning that kids should go back to bed.

Between half six and 7am is the yellow zone - which means that it is fine for the kids to play quietly in their room, but a little too early to wake mum and dad up.

After 7am is painted in green which means that the kids can cause chaos in their parents room (within reason of course).

Sharing a picture of her creation in a mum's Facebook group, Megan, said: "If anyone's going to be struggling with light mornings. This was a plain clock from Ikea, my 3-year-old now knows when to get up. Green is good to go.”

Speaking to the M.E.N’s Manchester Family, she added: "So she gets up when the glittery hand is in green, if she's awake in yellow, she can play quietly in her room but not in my room and red is back to bed.

"She is really quite good, just the odd problem like waking me up at 1.30am because 'I have no socks on'. Ha! But she does look for daylight to get up and I anticipate a problem with summer coming."
