Mum rushes to aid of woman who suffered heart attack while driving

A mum-of-two was hailed a hero for rushing to the aid of a woman who suffered a heart attack at the wheel in St Helens .

Natalie Owen, 27, was visiting her sister's in the Clock Face area when the drama unfolded outside.

She said: "My uncle rushed in to say there were young children outside saying their nan was dead.

"We ran into the road and found the woman unresponsive in the car after losing consciousness while driving.

"The car had stalled right next to a wall and I managed to squeeze through the door, push her chair back and start performing CPR on her.

"I'd had some training but never used it in a real-life situation before.

"I'd phoned for an ambulance and while waiting for it to arrive they talked me through what I should do."

Natalie added: "After the ambulance crew arrived and took over, I just collapsed with exhaustion. I was spaced out, dazed.

"I still don't think it's sunk in yet. Adrenaline just took over."

The woman who suffered the heart attack, who was aged in her 60s, was believed to be visiting her grandchildren when she suffered a heart attack.

She was taken to hospital but it is understood that she later sadly died.

Natalie's dad, Mike Marr, praised his daughter's "brave and heroic" actions in rushing to the woman's aid.
