Mum removes stubborn pen scribbles from sofa using hairspray

Turn your head for even a minute and your child can cause all sorts of mess.

This is a sentiment mums and dads share all too well.

One mother was horrified when she left her daughter in the living room and returned to find that she'd scribbled all over a velvet grey sofa with a pen.

Posting the all too familiar tale on a popular Facebook page, the woman revealed that she had left the pen lying around when she was cleaning up the living room.

Sharing pictures of the sofa stains on the Mrs Hinch's Cleaning tips Facebook group , she wrote: "2 min shower and this happens. It’s going to be one of those days.”

Desperate to get the stains out, she scrubbed away at the stubborn marks for half an hour.

But nothing would work.

“(I stupidly left a pen out) and after 30 mins of elbow grease I’ve only got the arm clean. Any ideas?," the woman pleaded.

Luckily, fellow group members were full of suggestions, including using Ariel laundry tablets and trying cult cleaning products like Elbow Grease.

But among the dozens of comments, hairspray was a suggestion that kept cropping up.

After trying out the trick, the mum shared some pictures of the results, and it looked as good as new.

The mum gleefully commented: “Like new, hairspray worked a treat, and very quickly.”

Hair spray contains alcohol, which can help remove ink stains from fabrics - clothing as well as upholstery.
