Mum recreates luxury £1,200 doors herself for just £10 - and it looks so professional

A mum has explained how she revamped her plain and boring doors for just £10 - saving her over £1,000.

Lorraine Kafanke, 37, a singer from Cumbria, found out the beautiful crittall doors she wanted were £1,200.

Not wanting to spend a fortune, the DIY -savvy mum-of-two decided to make them herself for just a fraction of the cost.

By using paint and electrical tape to create a dupe of the pricey doors, the whole project cost her less than £10.

Lorraine came up with the idea after she saw the doors or her dreams online but couldn't afford them.

She said she "hated" her old doors but is now thrilled with how they look now - and says anyone can easily copy her design.

Lorraine told LatestDeals.co.uk : "II thought 'why not try and create the look myself on a much cheaper scale?’

"I just used electrical tape, which cost 79p, and measured out four equal sections to create a glass panel look.

"I wasn’t sure the tape would work but it’s easily removed if the look didn’t suit.

"It was a little tricky getting the tape straight but a few attempts and I was happy.

"I used Johnstones matt black gloss paint for the wood at £8.99 a tin doing two thin coats.

"The process took about three days because of the drying time between coats.

"I also masked up the glass to get a nice neat finish with the paint and gave the glass a really good clean before applying the black tape."

Lorraine says she is "so pleased" with how they turned out and says she is happy to have completed the look on a budget.

"I saved well over £1,000: the cost of the doors I had wanted was £1,200, and I managed to create them for less than £10," she said.

"It gives me a real buzz turning unwanted things into something new. I love giving things a fresh new look.

"I’ve always been crazy about interior design and creating looks I visualise in my head."

Tom Church, co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, said: “Spending over £1,000 on doors seems like a lot of money, so hats off to Lorraine for managing to get the doors of her dreams at a tiny fraction of the price.

“Her doors look modern, cool and stylish - and cost just £10. Genius!”

In more makeover news, a couple who were quoted £550 for a new toilet room have managed to do the job for just £235 - less than half the price - by shopping around.

Lyndsey Thomas, 39, a teaching assistant from South Wales, and her husband Adrian, wanted to redecorate their home while keeping costs down.

The couple, who have two daughters between them, found expensive WCs they liked on Pinterest, then hunted at Home Bargains and B&M to see if they could get the look for less.
