Mum 'punched in the back' while walking to work

A woman was reportedly punched in the back as she walked to work in an unprovoked attack.

Last Thursday a woman was walking to work when she was followed by a man on Moorhey Road in Maghull. The man followed her to Deyes Lane, near to St Andrew’s Church where he "ran up behind her" and punched her.

The woman has been left "distressed" by the assault and Merseyside Police are asking anyone with any information to come forward.

The news was shared on a local Maghull Facebook page it said: "My mum was followed by a male who had a face covered from shops on Moorhey Road whilst walking to work, he followed her down Old Hall Road and right up Northway.

"My mum stopped as at this point she started to worry about what he was doing, he walked past her and went down the steps into St Andrews church graveyard. So my mum carried on walking past the steps, and as she has gone past them he’s come back up run up behind her, and punched her in the back."

A spokesperson from Merseyside Police said: "We are appealing for information following a report of an assault in Maghull on Friday, January 26. It was reported that at around 8.50pm a woman was walking along Deyes Lane, near to St Andrew’s Church, when a male approached her and struck her in the back. He then made off towards Northway.

"No injury was reported but the woman was left shocked and distressed by the incident. Officers are investigating and anyone with any information is asked to contact police.
