Mum pulls two young sons from car seconds before it EXPLODES into huge fireball

A mum and her two children are lucky to be alive after escaping from a car seconds before it exploded.

Dramatic CCTV footage shows Catherine Mayes pull young sons Tommy and Hunter to safety just in time.

As smoke billows from the front of the Mazda CX-5, a panicked Catherine is seen freeing Hunter, who is just four months old, shouting: "We gotta get away bubba."

Moments later the vehicle was completely engulfed in flames, and shocking pictures of the aftermath show the burned out shell of the car.

Ms Mayes told Nine News after the drama in Canberra, Australia: "I quickly got Tommy out and as I was getting him out it exploded and let out a crazy amount of smoke and started to catch fire so I raced to get Hunter out."

She continued: "I was just like autopilot, like I need to get my babies out."

According to reports in Australia, she had bought a back-up car battery pack, which caught fire as she pulled up at a park.

Her relieved partner John Stasik described her as "superwoman" for getting the children out so quickly.

He also described her as "amazing" after the Boxo battery pack - which carries a warning saying not to keep it in the sun - exploded.
