Mum propositioned by drunken man in front of her kids during 'nightmare' hotel stay

A mum says she was propositioned by a man in front of her children during a nightmare hotel stay.

Shocked Nicola Pledger, 41, said a drunken group of middle-aged men were "trashing" a room opposite her when one made a lewd remark.

The stay left her daughters, aged 11 and nine, in tears, the Liverpool Echo reports.

She claims the Adelphi hotel in Liverpool, where they stayed, is "not safe for women and children".

Nicola, who was visiting friends, said: “The hotel is massive. We were walking up the stairs as they had been put in a room quite far away.

"I was on my own with my two daughters. There were homeless people wandering around the hotel unchecked.

"Some were walking down the stairs with drinks in their hands and started jeering at us."

As they continued to their room, Nicola said: "The room opposite was occupied by four or five middle-aged men, drunk as anything, they were off their heads.

"Their door was open and as we walked past we could see that the room had been trashed.

"One of the men looked at me and said: ‘Are you staying there? We’ll see you later.’"

Nicola said following the incident her daughters were in tears and "scared to death" and she immediately rang reception to be moved rooms.

The experience left the girls in tears, Nicola said (Nicola Pledger)

After phoning reception Nicola said a duty manager came and took them to a new room on the sixth floor, but their stay didn't get any better.

She added: "The room was a designated smoking room and it stank.

"I didn't know hotels still had those. There was also a blood stain and finger prints on the wall.

"The whole thing was disgusting."

The next morning, Nicola went to reception to ask for a full refund but claims she was told "we don’t do refunds" and was told to go through an official complaints process.

Nicola said she also asked the member of staff on duty how they can they let homeless people wander around inside the hotel and claims she was simply told: "I don't know".

Britannia, which runs the hotel, has not responded to a request for a comment.
