A woman has been left furious after claiming her romantic trip away with her husband was spoiled by her stepdaughter - and she now wants to cancel a birthday surprise arranged for the young relative. The woman's partner had booked them a surprise getaway trip in the same destination where they spent their honeymoon as a birthday gift, the Mirror reports.
He had asked the stepdaughter months in advance if she could babysit their youngest child while they were away and she happily agreed to do so. However, when the time came for the big reveal on the mum's birthday, the stepdaughter phoned to ask again which dates she would be needed to babysit before announcing she could no longer look after their daughter.
The angry woman took to Mumsnet to explain that her husband was devastated and she now wants to cancel the surprise she had planned for her stepdaughter's upcoming 21st birthday, as she feels she doesn't deserve it. The woman, who remained anonymous, said that she had seen messages between her husband and his daughter, confirming that she'd look after her 11-year-old sister - and was aware they'd also discussed it over the phone.
She was thrilled to receive the thoughtful gift as the couple had not been on a weekend away in many years. She said: "When stepdaughter called to wish me happy birthday I thanked her for having daughter whilst we go away, 'aww no problem' she said. Within minutes she phoned my husband asking when we go, she said she could no longer do that date as she had plans that couldn't be changed (night out/seeing friends).
"There was no apology to either of us, I've not heard from her since, she would normally wish me happy Mother's Day but I didn't hear from her."

The heartbroken couple were forced to cancel the special trip and lost all of the money as the dates could not be changed and there was no one else that could look after their daughter. The woman explained that her child is autistic and needs somebody she is comfortable around to be there.
Still furious about the situation, the woman continued: "Her 21st is coming up and I had booked a gorgeous big cottage for a long weekend for us to celebrate, there's room for her to bring her boyfriend and a couple of friends and for some extended family to join us too.
"I paid the deposit last year and now the balance is due and in all honesty I don't want to pay it any more, I feel like cancelling and losing the deposit. Not out of spite, but just a feeling of 'why should I bloody bother?''"
In response to her post, many social media users sided with the disappointed woman and agreed she should cancel the cottage she had booked. One person replied: "I think you'd be unreasonable if you didn't cancel the reservation. What she did was so out of order."
Another wrote: "You can simply cancel on the basis that she’s not reliably prepared to save dates."
