Mum pays tribute to son, 10, mauled to death by dog which police had to kill at the scene

A heartbroken mother has paid tribute to her 10-year-old son after he was mauled to death by a dog.

Jack Lis was attacked by the dog when he visited one of his friends last month, at about 4pm on November 8.

The schoolboy suffered ““severe injuries to his head and neck” until police arrived on the scene and shot the dog dead.

This week, following an inquest into Jack’s death, cops have confirmed that the dog, called “Beast”, was over eight-stone and an American bulldog.

Jack’s mother Emma spoke last week at his funeral and said she would ‘give anything to hear you again’, when paying tribute to her ‘beautiful boy’.

Chief superintendent Mark Hobrough, who is in charge of the case, confirmed that the breed of dog which killed Jack at the home in Pentwyn, Penyrheol, is not banned in the UK.

He said: “The work to identify the breed of dog involved in this attack has concluded with the dog legislation officer’s report classifying the breed as an American bulldog.

“This breed does not feature on the list of banned dogs and is therefore not illegal to own in this country.”

A 28-year-old woman from the Caerphilly area was arrested on suspicion of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. She was later released on conditional bail.

Two men – a 34-year-old from the Mountain Ash area and a 19-year-old from the Caerphilly area – attended voluntarily in relation to an offence of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death. Both were later released.

Last week hundreds of people paid tribute to Jack and his family by lining the streets in Caerphilly on the day of his funeral, according to Wales Online.

Jack’s favourite cars led a procession which stopped for a time outside Cwm Ifor Primary School as his school friends released balloons.

At the service Jack’s mother Emma paid tribute to her son, saying: “My beautiful baby boy, I don’t know where to begin. I’ve spent the last 10 years watching you grow and we started to see you grow into the most amazing man.

“My heart aches so badly I won’t get the chance to see you grow. I’ll forever miss your stories about the games on the PlayStation, the cars you built on the games. But most of all I’ll miss your voice my boy and I’d give anything to hear you again. This isn’t a goodbye, it’s a see you later dude.”

Inquires are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to call the force on 101 quoting log reference 2100392510.

You can also send the force a direct message on Facebook or Twitter. Alternatively you can contact Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111.
