Mum overwhelmed after kind stranger saves son's trip to the cinema

A mum from Southport was left feeling overwhelmed after a stranger paid for her and her son to watch a movie in the cinema.

Jayne O'Neil took her 7-year-old son to the cinema on Thursday to watch Paw Patrol.

After walking to the venue, ordering their tickets and popcorn, she suddenly realised she had left her wallet at home.

After searching through her bag, she braced herself to break the news to her son, before a stranger wandered over to the till and paid for their tickets and popcorn.

The 49-year-old told the ECHO : "We live close to town so we walked up to the Vue cinema on Ocean Plaza, we queued up, ordered our popcorn and tickets and I couldn't find my wallet.

"I felt like a complete fool. I was going through my bag, even checked my little boy's wallet and that only had £2 in. I'd just got a new phone the day before as my old one had broken so I didn't even have Google Pay set up. I had PayPal but they don't take that.

"Anyway, my little boy has additional needs and he is quite passionate about Paw Patrol and I was starting to feel as though there was going to be a bit of a meltdown. Anyway, there was a lady behind us in the queue and when they opened a new till she came up to me and said 'I'll pay that for you' and I said 'no, no' but she insisted.

"She wouldn't give me her details, she wouldn't let me PayPal her, I was absolutely stunned. It was such a lovely thing to do and she was such a nice person. I'm not sure if she lives locally or was visiting on holiday. We were just rushing to get into the movie as it was about to start."

Jayne, who works at a car dealership, is now looking to return the money spent to the woman, if failing that she will pass on the kind gesture to someone else.

She said: "She didn't have to do that at all. We are just really lucky. It was very unexpected and very much appreciated because I would have hated to have disappointed my little boy so much.

"It's not as if we could drive home quickly to see if my wallet was at home. When we eventually got home, I found my wallet!"
