Mum ordered size 10 Pretty Little Thing dress - but it only JUST fit her young daughter

A mum was left fuming after a dress she bought was so small it only just fit her ten-year-old daughter.

Personal trainer Nicola Gail says she usually wears a size ten.

However, she claims she couldn't even slide her new Pretty Little Thing outfit over her elbows and knees.

She's now criticised the firm, which sponsors Love Island, over its sizings.

"They do no good for a woman's self-confidence," she claimed.

"It is sending out the wrong image to people.

"I felt horrible when I tried it on, and I also felt disappointed as I had wanted to wear it out.

"But I wouldn't even order it in a different size after this as it would have to be massive."

Nicola says she can sometimes squeeze into a size eight, but estimates she would need to order a size 14 or 16 to fit into the red dress - which she admits "was not cheap".

ChronicleLive has made repeated attempts to contact the firm, which has been slammed previously over its fittings.

Earlier this year, a black Pretty Little Thing “midaxi” dress sparked several Twitter complaints from customers unable to get it on.

Again, the firm didn't comment.

However, the fashion company did pull production of a different dress in April after a Stockton teenager again complained of poor sizing.

However, in Nicola's case, she wants an apology - and for the company to sort its sizing out for good.

"With the work I do, I hear about people's confidence [with dress sizings and shapes] all the time, and to make items fit that badly is morally wrong," said the 32-year-old, who lives in the Chester-le-Street area.

"The company does a lot of advertising with Love Island, and people will have seen their clothes on that - but this could just feed any issues people have with their body.

"I would want them to look at their sizes and to take the lines off if it isn't the right size."

ChronicleLive understands Pretty Little Thing's customer service department will look at Nicola's complaint.

The firm has exploded in popularity in recent years.

Celebs such as TOWIE's Lucy Mecklenburgh have even been brought in to help design a range of clothes.

But in Nicola's case, one thing she won't be doing is letting daughter Caitlin keep the ill-fitting dress - although at least they both saw the funny side.

"She just laughed at the fact it couldn't fit me, but it could fit her," said Nicola.

"But even she said to me, 'this is not an adult's dress'.

"A few people have joked I could give it to her, but it isn't the point - they need to look into this."
