Mum of Waterford teen targeted in shocking 'acid attack' says she's 'happy he's alive'

The mum of an Irish teen who was targeted in an “acid attack” has said that she’s “'just so happy he's alive”.

Waterford teen Tega Agberhiere and his two friends were badly wounded during the assault last month.

The 16-year-old’s mum Christie said: “I am just so happy he is alive. It is my joy today that he is alive, he can see and he is here.

"All the prayers were not in vain, I know all over Waterford and Ireland people were praying and it is working.”

Tega was able to return home from hospital last weekend.

She called his recovery her “miracle” and said that it has made her more faithful.

She told the Irish Sun: “I just want him to be alright and return to his routine and football and his Leaving Cert so he can play for football and college like other people his age."

Christie also said that the family is waiting for feedback from the DPP after four lads were arrested but later released and a file was sent to the DPP.

She said that her main concern for now is his health but she also wants Tega’s attackers to face justice.

She added: “Every mother would be angry for what they did to my son but it is not going to change anything. I am not looking back, just forward and helping to get my son better."

An online fundraiser has been set up to help the family with his medical expenses.
