Mum-of-two given paracetamol for 'migraine' dies after battle with brain cancer

An inspirational mum-of-two who was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour has died.

Isabel Morison, 39, was diagnosed with a fast growing and aggressive form of brain cancer in February last year, turning her family's lives upside down.

After more than a year spent bravely battling the incurable disease , Isabel died on Sunday, May 26 leaving behind her husband Stuart and young children Dylan and Lucy.

Doctors had initially diagnosed Isabel, who worked as a music teacher at Sacred Heart Catholic College in Crosby , with a migraine and sent her home with paracetamol.

But the next day, she received the devastating news that she had an incurable brain tumour.

Isabel, from Aughton in Lancashire , tried Optune - a treatment not currently available on the NHS - in her efforts to fight the illness.

The non-invasive technique uses electric fields, delivered via a set of adhesive patches worn like a skull cap.

It helps to prevent the tumour from growing or spreading quickly and the cap has to be worn between 17-24 hours daily and applied to a completely shaved head.

The mum also underwent courses of chemotherapy and radiotherapy in her courageous cancer battle.

In the final months of her life, Isabel and husband Stuart made it their mission to create as many happy memories as possible with their young family.

Stuart and Isabel were childhood sweethearts, married for more than 13 years when Isabel passed away.

She was described as a "loved and valued member of staff" at Sacred Heart, where she worked for more than 16 years.

A GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for Isabel and her family described how she came to be diagnosed with the aggressive tumour.

The page said: "It all started over the Christmas period of 2017 when Isabel started with a series of headaches which continued over the course of the following months.

"Isabel has always been such a fit and healthy lady who has a passion for running and in the past has competed in the London and New York marathons, to name a few.

"But these headaches were completely debilitating and together with tiredness and fatigue, she was completely knocked off her feet, like nothing she’d ever experienced.

"Being the mum that she is, Isabel carried on trying her best to hide it from the children, until one morning in February, after a horrendous night of headaches and being doubled over in so much pain, she saw the children off to school and then dialled 111.

"An ambulance was sent straight away and she was taken to Southport Hospital where she was immediately admitted and over the next few days underwent a series of investigations to include  CT, MRI scans and lumbar puncture."

Sharing the news of Isabel's death on social media, Ormskirk FC said: "We are saddened with the news that Isabel Morison has today lost her courageous battle with cancer. From everyone connected to Ormskirk Football Club, we send our condolences to her husband Stuart, son Dylan and daughter Lucy."

Tributes to the much-loved music teacher have poured in on social media, including from people who didn't know Isabel but followed her cancer battle.
