Mum-of-two given last chance to avoid prison

A mum-of-two who breached a suspended jail term has been given her last chance to avoid prison.

Dionne Brittan was serving a suspended term of 12 months when police pulled her over for driving while disqualified.

The 36-year-old, of Turner Gardens in Lockleaze, pleaded guilty to the offence as well as driving without insurance and without an MOT certificate.

Judge William Hart handed her a 12 months community order with a Thinking Skills programme, and fined her £25.

He told Brittan: "Fail to comply and we will meet again and sooner than later I'll have to lock you up.

"There are people trying to help you but you are not a very easy person to help."

Robin Shellard, prosecuting, told Bristol Crown Court Brittan was stopped by police in September on the A4 Bath Road, Brislington, and gave them a false name.

When interviewed she admitted the three offences.

Alun Williams, defending, said his client had contended with problems including loss of a permanent address and family health concerns.

Mr Williams told the court: "Things are rather fraught for her.

"She accepts her conduct and she accepts it was wrong.

"It was borne out of a chaotic situation in her life."
