A mum-of-two found a hidden message written on the wall of her new home dating back to 1919.
Jenny Smith and her dad, Graham Smith, 67, were stripping the walls when they discovered a message on the walls believed to be from a Southport based decorator.
The 40-year-old admin assistant told the ECHO : "To be honest, it's made me feel really grateful to live in house like this.

"We knew the house was gorgeous and there was something special about it when we viewed it because it's so old and has so many of the original features left in it. I couldn't wait to get my hands on it and redecorate it.

"When we found the actual message it gave me a lot of comfort because when you're in an old house your mind starts to run away. My partner works away a lot so I'm on my own a lot with the kids and any little noise I was hearing I was getting a bit scared so it gave me a lot of comfort knowing about what has been here before me.
"I was hoping that he lived here but obviously not. After my dad found that message, I slept all night. It made me feel a bit better.
The message reads "Herbert Fearn papered these walls the day before Peace Day, July 18 1919."
Jenny, and her partner Daniel, 39, only moved into the house four weeks ago from Staffordshire with their two children Taylor, 4 and Louis, 3.
Jenny had previously spent 20 years working for Virgin Atlantic before being made redundant last summer due to the pandemic with Daniel working on building hotels across the country.
The couple now look renovate the house but also plan on framing the message.
Jenny shared her discovery in a Facebook post and people have been quick to confirm Herbert Fearn was a local painter and decorator in Southport.
One person said: "I've found a Herbert Fearn who was a master decorator!" and then it later being claimed that he lived locally on Duke Street.

Jenny is relishing living around history with the house on Clive Road dating back 120 years. She added: "I've always wanted a Victorian house, whereas Dan wasn't really bothered.
"He's from Leicester and he never really grew up around old buildings but I'm from Liverpool and Liverpool has loads of old buildings so I have grown up with it all.
"When I was on about buying a Victorian house he wasn't really bothered whereas it's like a dream come true for me."
