Mum-of-two caught drink driving at McDonald's drive-thru in Byker

A mum was caught drink-driving after she made a trip to a McDonald's drive-thru.

Leanne Henry went to the fast food restaurant in Potts Street, Byker, Newcastle, on September 29 in a Citroen C1.

But staff at the site suspected she had been drinking and the police were informed.

Tests revealed she had 57 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath - the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

The 27-year-old, of Wallington Avenue, Cullercoats, has now pleaded guilty to a charge of driving with alcohol level above limit.

At North Tyneside Magistrates' Court, prosecutor Clare Irving said: "Police were effectively called to McDonald's in Byker as she had gone through the drive-thru and ordered food.

"Staff suspected she had been under the influence of alcohol.

"The defendant was spoken to. She fully complied and was arrested. The reading showed 57 microgrammes in breath."

John Kirkham, mitigating, said Henry, who had no previous convictions, was a carer by profession and had two children.

He added: "She offers a guilty plea on the first opportunity."

And referring to the offence, he said: "It was simply a miscalculation on her part."

Henry was banned from driving for 15 months and ordered to pay £237, which included a fine and court costs.
