The mum of tragic boxer Mike Towell is fighting for her life in hospital after being knocked down by a car on Friday. Tracey Thomson Towell, 57, is currently in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee receiving treatment for serious injuries.
The tragic accident comes six years after son Mike, known as 'Iron' Mike, died after a televised boxing fight to Welsh fighter Dale Evans. The 25-year-old collapsed after his loss to Evans in the fifth round of the British title eliminator at Glasgow’s St Andrews Sporting Club on September 29, 2016.
He received medical treatment in the ring before being taken to hospital but died of a brain bleed 24 hours later on September 30. A Fatal Accident Inquiry published in 2019 ruled the fight "should never have taken place".
Mike's then-partner Chloe Ross, who is the mother of his son Rocco, eight, said it wasn't time for Tracey to be reunited with Michael yet. In an emotional post on social media, the 30-year-old said: "Sorry I can't reply to everyone's messages. I thought this was the best / quickest way to update everyone now that my boy knows that his best friend, his granny and Michael's mum .. is so unwell.
"We & Tracey’s family are absolutely devastated beyond words, something I never imagined to be writing but Tracey Thomson Towell has been in a really severe accident on Friday and has multiple serious injuries.
"She isn’t doing well at the moment, we are taking things day by day so everyone please keep her in your prayers, the woman has been through so much but we pray it's not her time to go back with Michael yet.
"I don’t think Rocco can handle any more heartbreak. Why this keeps happening to him I’ll never know."
