A Hamilton mum who suffered the unimaginable pain of losing her teenage son has credited his best pals for helping to keep his memory alive.
Alison Larkin was devastated when 14-year-old son Kyle Stevens died suddenly back in March 2019.
The Hamilton Grammar pupil had been a popular lad, with a supportive group of friends who recently climbed Ben Nevis in his memory, raising funds for the charity he supported, Shelter.
And Alison has been extremely touched by the boys efforts in continuing to honour Kyle's memory and supporting her over the last 18 months.
She told Lanarkshire Live : "These boys are quite simply amazing.
"They have shown us so much kindness and support since we lost Kyle and continue to honour him and their friendships so sweetly.
"We are all so quick to dismiss teenagers, condemn their behaviour and judge their direction. These boys are the perfect example of how wrong that misconception can be.
"These kids went through a trauma with us when we lost Kyle and have stood tall with a resilience that is admirable and an empathy that today is truly unique and priceless.
"I watch these kids from afar and see them reaching for and achieving their goals and making plans for their future, and I am excited for them.
"These boys, who recently made it to the top of Ben Nevis in honour of my son and their friend, and who have beaten their Go Fund Me target of £1000 with donations for Shelter still coming in, give me hope.
"We could learn a lot from them if we take the time to listen."
Kyle, who was described as "a boy with great potential," had been in S3 when he died suddenly, leaving his family and friends devastated.
His death led to his close knit group of pals deciding to tackle the 1345m climb with a £1000 target for the charity that was close to Kyle's heart.
The group scaled the summit earlier this month and raised £1200 in Kyle's memory.
Pal Abdullah Altaf said: "Kyle was a positive influence on everyone he met and therefore we decided to remember his positive nature and help Shelter by doing the sponsored walk up Ben Nevis.
"Shelter tackles the increasing problem of homelessness across the UK - something that Kyle felt very strongly about. We were delighted to smash our £1000 target and raise £1200 for the charity.
