Mum of three thanks 'saviour' who helped in Asda queue

A mum who realised she didn't have her bank card at a supermarket till said the man who stepped in to pay for her was like a "saviour" that day.

Michelle Harding, 42, had been to pick up her children from school on Wednesday, May 12, when they popped into Asda in Bootle Strand on the way back to buy something for tea.

Michelle, who rides a mobility scooter due to a neurological condition, said she was "up the wall" in the shop and took her shopping to the till.

Michelle said: "I got to the till and she put it all through. As I went to pay and my bank card wasn't in my phone case where I normally keep it.

"I couldn't for the life of me think what I'd put it and knew I must have lost it somewhere when I was taking my phone in and out of my bag."

The mum of three said she became "flustered" when she couldn't find her card and because it takes her more time because of mobility issues, she was aware she was holding up a queue of people.

She said: "I thought I'm just going to have to leave the shop as I didn't even have any cash on me.

"But a guy standing in the queue behind me just turned around and said, 'I'll pay for it for her'."

Michelle said because she was so flustered at the time she didn't get a chance to thank the man properly, who she describes as in his 50s with grey hair and wearing a mask.

She added: "It was only £13 it wasn't a huge shopping bill but it saved me from having to leave without our tea.

"I always have to take extra time doing stuff - and I was very aware I was stuck there wondering what I was going to do and holding the till up."

When Michelle got home, she uploaded a post to a Bootle Facebook community group in the hope of finding the man to pay him back.

The post received many comments from people, praising the man for stepping in to help.

One woman posted: "What a kind man, I would like to thank him too...some really kind people out there. God bless him."

Another woman said: "What a lovely gentleman...it restores your faith in humanity."

While another posted: "And that's why I’m proud to be from Bootle. We may get bad mouthed but we are good people xx".

Michelle said she was thankful to a kind 'saviour' in the queue who stepped in and paid for her. (Michelle Harding)

Michelle added: "He was a bit of saviour to me because my three-year-old definitely wouldn't have understood we had to leave his sweets.

"I went home and found my card and was so relieved. I thought I'd put a post up to see if he would come forward so I can pay him back, or at least if he sees it and knows that I have said thank you."
