Mum of teenager missing for 15 years says she knows 'in her gut' daughter is dead

The mother of missing girl Amy Fitzpatrick has admitted that she knows "in her gut" that her daughter is dead.

Amy Fitzpatrick's sudden disappearance is one of the most baffling missing persons cases in Irish history. The 15-year-old teenager went missing from Riviera del Sol in Mijas Costa, near Fuengirola, on New Year ’s Day in 2008.

Amy was not officially reported missing until January 3 and no trace of the teenager has ever been found. Her mother, Audrey Mahon, has just marked the 15th anniversary of her daughter’s disappearance, but she says she can’t bring herself to acknowledge it.

Audrey was recently given new information regarding who her daughter was with in the days before her disappearance, however, she believes that Amy is no longer alive.

She told Irish Mirror: "I spent the day crying in bed last night. I do that most of the time at this time of the year. I get into the bed and curl up. We don’t mark the anniversary. New Year's Eve, January first, we hide basically, we can’t do it."

"My ma, my Da, my sister and her two nieces have died since then. She would have got in touch with somebody and she was very close with her brother. So no, she’s gone. She’s not around. I know she’s not in my gut."

Audrey has urged those responsible for Amy's disappearance to come forward and she is adamant she will get the "answers" she needs.

She concluded: "Come forward. I’d offer an award if they came forward. I’d give every last penny I had. I’ll get the answers. Believe you me I’ll get the answers."
