Mum of teen killed by policeman is shot as 'fellow mourner's gun goes off' at funeral

The grieving mum of a teenager killed by a police officer was shot during her son's funeral after a fellow mourner's gun reportedly went off by accident.

A single shot was fired as loved ones of Sincere Pierce, 18, laid flowers following a service at the Riverview Memorial Gardens in Florida on Saturday.

Quasheda Pierce, 39, was helped into a minivan after saying she had been struck by a bullet before an ambulance arrived, with mourners said to have fled the scene in terror, reports Florida Today.

Police have said an unnamed 16-year-old male - who is allegedly refusing to co-operate with investigations - and Ms Pierce suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The teen "experienced an accidental discharge from a firearm concealed on his person during the funeral service", officers told WFTV9.

The bullet is understood to have passed through the teen's leg before hitting Ms Pierce in her leg.

Armed officers descended on the cemetery following multiple emergency calls, with detectives continuing investigations.

Sincere Pierce and Angelo Crooms, 16, were killed when Brevard County Deputy Jafet Santiago-Miranda discharged his gun several times into their car after they allegedly failed to pull over in Titusville on November 13.

Civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, who is representing the family of George Floyd - an unarmed black man who died after a police officer was filmed kneeling on his neck in Minneapolis in May - is now also working on behalf of the teens' families.

Sheriff Ivey released dashcam footage of the incident from earlier this month, which shows Pierce and Crooms' vehicle pulling into a driveway while being pursued by two patrol cars without lights.

The teens' car was then driven toward Deputy Santiago-Miranda who repeatedly shouted for them to stop.

The sheriff said his colleague was "forced to fire" in his efforts to "stop the deadly threat of the car".
