Mum of Scotland's youngest coronavirus survivor in tears over NHS staff who saved baby's life

The mum of Scotland's youngest coronavirus survivor was left in tears today after seeing the NHS staff who saved her baby's life.

Peyton Maguire was born prematurely and diagnosed with covid-19 at just three weeks old.

She was just 3lbs 5oz when she was born eight weeks before her due date.

Appearing on Good Morning Britain today, Peyton's dad Adrian told host Lorraine Kelly that the experience as "mind-numbing" and that he "couldn't get his head around it".

"I thought, 'I'm never going to see my daughter again," he said, but said that she was now, thankfully, "absolutely fine right now".

Overcome with emotion, Tracy burst into tears as she saw their faces on screen.

Following the birth of her daughter on 26th March, Tracy felt healthy but was not she may have pre-eclampsia during a routine appointment. She was later sent straight to Lankashire's Wishaw General Hospital.

Following the first weeks of her birth, Peyton began show symptoms of covid-19, including coughs and a sniffle.

Peyton was later diagnosed with the virus and given steroids to help strengthen her lungs.

Meanwhile Tracy was told she would have to go home and isolate away from her newborn baby for 14 days.

Doctors relented after Tracy pleaded to stay with her daughter, but Adrian had to isolate for the two weeks away from his daughter and partner.

Thankfully, Peyton recovered and she and Tracy were discharged from hospital.
