Mum of 'perfect son' young farmer found dead next to rifle says there were 'no signs' he was unhappy

Young men have been urged to find help and talk about their feelings by the family of a young farmer who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The body of Gruffydd Lloyd Parry, known as Gruff, was found at the family farm in Pentrecelyn, near Ruthin, in the early hours of February 11 this year. He was pronounced dead

An inquest into his death in Ruthin today heard the 26-year-old had gone missing after supper the night before and his dad Bryn had contacted the police after discovering a rifle, one of two firearms kept at the farm, was missing.

Officers attended and the body of Mr Parry was found, North Wales Live reports.

A post-mortem examination found no drugs or alcohol in his system and gave the cause of death, as a gunshot wound.

No note was left, but Coroner for North Wales East and Central, John Gittins, recorded a conclusion of suicide, saying Mr Parry’s intention was clear.

At the inquest, his devastated family said there was no indication Mr Parry, who sang in a local choir, was unhappy, or intended to take his own life.

His mother Carys urged young men feeling depressed to get help and talk to someone.

Mrs Parry said: “He was just the perfect son and was just so happy.

“I feel that if it could happen to him, it could happen to anybody. We didn’t see any signs.”

Offering his condolences to the family, Mr Gittins echoed the importance of anybody feeling down to seek help and get support.

Since Mr Parry’s death, more than £7,000 has been donated to the DPJ Foundation in his memory.

It was set up by Emma Picton-Jones after her husband took his own life in 2016 and promises to use every penny donated to support those in Welsh farming communities.
