The mum of a New Zealand mosque massacre victim died just a day after her 38-year-old son’s funeral, it has been reported.
Kamel Darkish, 38, was shot dead on March 15 at the Al Noor mosque by a terrorist gunman during Friday prayers.
He was one of 50 people who died when the gunman opened fire while the victims were praying in the city of Christchurch.
Kamel, a dad-of-three, had only recently moved to New Zealand from Jordan and was waiting for his wife and children to join him.
His funeral was held on Friday but his family suffered a double tragedy when his mother Saud Abdelfattah Mhaisen Adwan died just hours after.
Ms Adwan was said to have been overcome with sorrow and sadness of losing her son.
According to her 33-year-old nephew, she had gone to bed with a sore stomach and was found dead when her family checked on her in the morning.
He said: “She just didn't wake up. We feel like the main reason for her death is sadness. It's extremely sad.
“She was a very lovely, easy going person.”
He added that he believed she died of a 'broken heart' and that the gunman was responsible for her death.
Kamel had moved to New Zealand six months ago to join his older brother Zuhair, who has lived in the country since 2007.
He had convinced Kamel to move as he believed it was a safer place for his brother to raise his three children, aged two, six and eight.
Kamel’s wife had been awaiting a visa to immigrate to New Zealand so she could join her husband.
Several relatives of other victims also went on to suffer heart attacks after the massacre.
Mohsin Al-Harbi initially survived the attack but later died in hospital.
His wife Manal was so distressed by his death that she collapsed with a heart attack and was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
Sazada Akhter was shot twice at the Al Noor mosque and her mother suffered a heart attack when she found out.
The gunman was named as Australian Brenton Tarrant and was charged with murder following the attack.
