Mum of murdered Rachel Callaly vows to do 'anything' to keep evil killer Joe O'Reilly behind bars

Rose Callaly blames evil Joe O’Reilly for sending both of her daughters to early graves.

And the 79-year-old has promised to do everything in her power to keep the killer behind bars.

Rose found the badly beaten body of her daughter Rachel Callaly, a 30-year-old mum of two, in the bedroom of her home in The Naul, North Co Dublin, in 2004.

Her husband O’Reilly, who had bludgeoned her with a dumbbell, was sentenced to life in 2007.

Rachel’s sister Ann passed away in September 2010 at the age of 32 following a lengthy battle with bone cancer.

Rose said the brutal attack on Rachel had a “devastating impact” on Ann who became “absolutely terrified” of O’Reilly.

Her mother believes this “triggered” the cancerous tumour behind Ann’s eye.

The murderer can apply for early release every two years.

But Rose told the Sunday Independent: “If I can do anything, as long as I have breath in my body, my main focus in life is that justice will be done by keeping him in prison.”

The 6ft 5in brute, who had been having an affair with Nikki Pelley at the time of Rachel’s death, has made two applications for parole, both of which have been rejected.

Rose, her husband Jim and their three sons have already written another batch of objection letters.

She added: “If he said sorry now and he asked for forgiveness, I would feel it was just his last shot at trying to get out of prison.

“I believe he is evil and I don’t want anyone to forget what he has done.

“He took Rachel’s life and then he tried to take her character, her good name.

“When I’m saying my prayers I say the words, ‘I forgive him’, because I know it is wrong to not have any forgiveness. But I don’t mean it – and that’s hypocritical.

“Maybe some day I will find it in myself to forgive him as it’s supposed to be good for you.

“It’s a work in progress but I feel it hasn’t even started.”
