Mum of missing woman who died on hen do reveals sign something was very wrong

The mum of Ruth Maguire who vanished on a hen do and was later discovered dead has revealed the moment she knew something was seriously wrong.

Geraldine Worthington said the biggest alarm bell was when Ruth, 30, failed to contact fiancé, James Griffin, and began to fear the worst.

She told UTV: "I knew right away... because of the type of person she was.

"She kept in contact with everybody, she would have phoned Jim right away as soon as she left the bar at 11.30pm, she would have been in contact the next morning organising everything for the children... It's just how she was, she kept in contact with them all day."

Ruth, who has been described as "irreplaceable" by her family, disappeared on Saturday after enjoying a girlie night out with a group of more than 30 friends in Carlingford, Co Louth, in Ireland.

They were staying at a house in the town and realised Ruth had not returned after midnight, reports Belfast Live.

A search party, which included the RNLI, ended when the devoted mum-of-three's body was found in Carlingford Lough on Monday.

Geraldine added: "She was a ray of sunshine to everybody."

Her sister Rachel Wilkinson also said: "She wasn't a drinker so therefore any sort of small amount of alcohol was going to affect her more. She obviously lost her bearings."

Ruth's heartbroken fiancé sent a message of thanks to the coastguard and emergency services who battled to find his "soul mate".

In an emotional statement, James, also known as Jim, said Ruth would have become "Mrs Griffin" on August 8.

A death notice released by Ruth's family revealed the young mum will be laid to rest this Saturday in the Ruth Maguire: Mum who went missing at hen party to be buried in her wedding dress she never got to wear.

The notice read: "Beloved partner of James, loving mother of Tyler, Lydia and Oliver, daughter of Geraldine and Malachy, sister of Raymond, Rachel and Ryan.

"Ruth will arrive at St Vincent de Paul Church for 9am Requiem Mass on Saturday March 23.

"Funeral afterwards to Carnmoney Cemetery for committal at 11am. Deeply regretted by her loving partner, children, parents, brothers, sister and family circle."
