Mum of girl, 16, killed in crash with boyfriend, 21, begs drivers not to speed

The mum of a teenager killed alongside her boyfriend in a horror car crash has begged drivers not to speed - as it tears families apart.

Jane Gilbert, 16, and Graham Mathie, 21, both died when his Mitsubishi Evolution hit a wall in South Lanarkshire in 2013.

Known locally as Park's Corner, the bend on the B7078 where the pair lost their lives is a notorious accident blackspot.

Jane's mum Beth has now spoken out about her daughter's death in a hard-hitting video for Road Safety Scotland.

She claims Graham was speeding right before the fatal crash, reports the Daily Record.

Holding back tears, Beth said: "My daughter Jane was only 16 when she was killed. She went away one night and never came back.

"Her driver was actually speeding which resulted in them going across the road and hitting a barrier and both of them were killed instantly."

"Jane was my one and only child. She was my only family. You never, ever dream of thinking that you're going to lose your child.

"You always think that you're going to go before them. She had a bright future."

Beth pleaded with motorists to watch their speed and described the enduring pain Jane's death left behind.

"Please watch your speed, no matter where or when, just watch your speed," she added.

"Because it does kill and it really does tear families apart."
