Mum of four hears bang while eating tea and discovers car is a flaming inferno

A mum-of-four described her shock after her car was torched in what is thought to be a deliberate attack.

Dawn Cockburn and her family were just finishing their evening meal last night when they were disturbed by a tremendous bang outside their home, on the Woodchurch estate near Prenton.

She rushed outside to find her car, a Vauxhall Meriva, well ablaze.

The fire service were called, who quickly put out the blaze, and the police have also been informed.

It happened between 8pm and 8.30pm on Saturday evening.

The mum-of-four said: "We had just finished our evening meal when I heard a big bang outside.

"I panicked. I jumped up and saw the car was an inferno. It went up very quickly.

"It's scary. How far are they going to go? The night before, I had three bricks put through my patio windows.

"I rely on the car and it [the destruction] means I can't physically get my son to school. My husband is also disabled and can't walk very far because of nerve damage."

Dawn, 45, thought the car fire might be a targeted attack following a dispute involving another family.

The Meriva was completely destroyed, while a neighbour's car - a yellow Mini - which was parked nearby also caught fire and was written off.

The woman whose Mini was also destroyed wrote on Facebook: "Absolutely devastated beyond words, through no fault of my own, victim of estate beef, absolutely unbelievable and senseless. I'll just find an alternative way to get work, feed my kids, pay my bills. Right before Christmas. Thanks."
