Mum-of-five struggling with her balance told she could have three years to live

A mum-of-five was given devastating news by a doctor after she began to lose her sense of balance.

Tracy Williams went for a check-up when she started to slur her words and began struggling to stay upright.

After checks, the 43-year-old received the devastating news that she has Motor Neurone Disease (MND), Liverpool Echo reported.

The doctors told the Formby, Merseyside, mum that she has between three and 10 years to live.

MND is a rare condition that affects the brain and the nervous system.

There's no cure for the disease and it can significantly shorten life expectancy, but some people live with it for many years.

Tracy's best friend Nikki Stewart is now on a mission to help her walk down the aisle on her wedding day before her mobility gets any worse.

Tracy said: "At first it was my foot, it was like it was catching on the floor and then my walking gradually got worse.

"I got weakness in my legs on my left side and then it started in my arm.

"I went to the doctors and they sent me to the neurologist for brain scans and spinal scans and things."

Tracy has a history of MS in her family and initially suspected that could be the cause of her symptoms, but doctors soon ruled it out.

After undergoing tests at the Walton Centre, she was diagnosed with MND on September 16.

Tracy said: "I was heartbroken because they told me I could have three to 10 years to live and that was the worst shock more than anything.

"They told me I'll end up in a wheelchair and my speech will go completely and I'll have trouble eating."

Tracy, who has five children aged 23, 20, 18, 10 and 8, is determined to keep on working in her job as an office manager at a school.

She is aiming to get married at the start of next year to her partner of 12 years, Andy Ball, 42, and fulfil her dream of walking down the aisle.

In order to help Tracy to achieve her dream and give her and Andy "a special day to remember", friend Nikki has set up a Go Fund Me page.

"She's my best friend - we work together," Nikki said.

"I lost my husband to Covid in January and she was there for me.

"I know what my children went through and I can't imagine what her boys will go through. That's why I want to do something special for her really.

"She wants to be able to walk down the aisle and because things happened so quickly we don't know how quickly she will lose her ability to walk."
