The mum of British twins attacked by a crocodile in Mexico has said it was their bond that saved them.
Melissa Laurie, 28, was dragged beneath the water by the animal while swimming in the Manialtepec Lagoon with her sister Georgia, who then dived under the surface to search for her when she didn't reply.
Georgia then found her twin floating face-down in the lagoon, which is about 10 miles from Puerto Escondido, a surfing resort popular with British holidaymakers.
She tried to bring her twin back to their boat, but the crocodile attacked again, causing her to punch it in the head until it let go.
The twins' mum Sue Laurie, 63, said it was her daughters' incredible bond that saved them.
She told the Daily Mail: "They have always been there for each other.
"The girls can fight like cats and dogs, but there is no closer relationship than twins. They will do anything for each other.
"And what happened in Mexico shows just that. If Georgia had not have been there who knows what would have happened."
Melissa was left fighting for her life in hospital after the attack.
Sue gave an update on her daughter's condition, saying: “She has water on her lungs and she has been coughing up blood. So we don't know if she has a punctured lung or not.
“She has been put into a medically induced coma."
Their father Sean added: “Georgia fought off the crocodile."
The sisters had been backpacking around the world when they took a boat trip to the Manialtepec Lagoon, which is a coastal lagoon.
Mr Laurie claims his daughters were assured by their tour company there were no crocodiles in the water.
"The girls asked specifically if it was safe to go swimming and the guide had said it was,” the 63-year-old said.
