The mum of the boy who was this week pictured sleeping on a hospital floor says she has “no regrets”.
A shocking image of little Jack on the Mirror’s front page became the biggest story of the election.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson was slammed for refusing to look at the photo during a car-crash interview with an ITV reporter.
Mum Sarah Williment, 34, from Leeds, said: “Never be afraid to speak out on issues that affect your children. I have no regrets in standing up for my child.”
It was suspected that Jack had pneumonia and because of a bed shortage, he spent more than four hours on a floor and a further five on a trolley.
He was later diagnosed with flu and tonsillitis.
Jack, four, has fully recovered from his ordeal and is back at school, thanks to the care he received at Leeds General Infirmary.
“The doctors and nurses were wonderful,” Sarah said as she thanked the public for their support.
The hospital yesterday rejected unfounded social media claims that the story and photos were fake, and apologised to the family again.
NHS bosses re-issued their original statement, which said: “We would like to sincerely apologise to Jack and his family.”
Sarah had already accepted the apology and said: “I have no issue with the hospital or the staff.
"Everyone there is doing their very best for the patients and we are extremely grateful for all the work they do.”
The mum of two says she has been “overwhelmed” at the interest in her story and thanked the public for their support.
But she added: “We want to move on and draw a line under it. We want to be a normal family again and enjoy Christmas.”
She said she will not be making any further comment.
