Mum of 'Baby P' will have to stay in County Durham jail for several more months

The mum of 'Baby P' Peter Connelly will have to stay in a high security County Durham jail for several more months, it has been reported.

Tracey Connelly, 40, had hoped to be free for Christmas, but has been told she must wait until at least spring for Parole Board bosses to decide her fate.

A source told The Daily Star : “The Parole Board wants all the information it can on her progress in prison and if she has to wait, then so be it.”

And a spokesman for the Parole Board confirmed the decision had been delayed. He said: “Protecting the public is our No1 priority.”

Connelly appeared before the board in October, saying she was no longer a danger to the public.

It was her fourth bid for release and she will face two more years’ jail if unsuccessful.

Connelly’s son Peter, one, died in 2007 after suffering more than 50 injuries at the hands of her partner Steven Barker and his paedophile brother Jason Owen. He was found dead at Connelly’s London flat after 60 visits from carers and police.

Connelly was jailed after she admitted causing or allowing the death of a child in 2008.

She was initially released in 2013 but was locked up again in 2015 after breaking the terms of her indefinite sentence by selling porn pictures of herself.

She is being held Low Newton high-security jail in Co Durham.
