A mum was left shocked after her daughter announced that having her hair parted to the side makes her 'old'.
Chantalle Scott shared the odd revelation on TikTok, where she's known as @divine_curves11.
The mum was responding to a video by another woman on the social media platform, who said she was "forcing a middle part every day because I don’t want Gen Z to think I am old".
In the video, which has since been viewed more than 5.4 million times, Chantalle, who was clearly gobsmacked to learn the news that side partings are apparently a major fashion faux-pas, jokingly fumed at her daughter's cheeky response.
She joked: "Ok I am absolutely dying.
"I just saw this video and I turned to my 21-year-old daughter and said, 'Is the side part just for old people? Is that why you part your hair in the middle?'"
Hilariously, her daughter is said to have replied: "Yeah not to be rude mum, but the side part is kind of the equivalent to an old man comb-over'."
The mum added: "Yeah, she said that. She’s currently homeless."
Since being posted, the video has received more than 778,000 likes and almost 30,000 comments from viewers who were baffled by the idea.
One person said: "Middle parts were for DORKS when I was young. What is happening?"
Another said: "I can't have a middle part I have curly hair and I look like one of those founding fathers."
"I'm literally 23, I'm not even old I don't understand," added a third. "Middle parts were NOT cool when I was in high school."
While a fourth said: "I will ALWAYS side-part, parting has to do with what's flattering on your face shape."
And one person wrote: "As a hairstylist, I can tell you this is a kid thing. Most people do not look good with a middle part."
