Mum accidentally sent 'inappropriate gift' to child

A mum was left feeling embarrassed after accidentally sending a child an "inappropriate gift" in the post.

For her godson's ninth birthday, the mum arranged for a present to be delivered to his house via Amazon. The child's mum "is lovely" but "a bit uptight", and is unimpressed to have received something else alongside the birthday gift.

When placing the Amazon order, a novelty sweet wrapper was also included by mistake. The wrapper uses sections of popular chocolate bar logos to create a risqué phrase or word, or even a term of endearment or name. The mum placing the order accidentally included a wrapper spelling the word 'w***er'.

Taking to Mumsnet's beloved Am I Being Unreasonable forum with a post titled 'Inappropriate gift sent to child', the mum penned: "Good morning. I am an idiot. I have a godson whose mother is lovely but very religious and a bit uptight.

"It's his 9th birthday today. Long story short I placed an Amazon order to be delivered to their house, and he's just opened it and it turns out that alongside the nice gifts I sent him, I accidentally included something else that was in my basket….

"His dad (my friend) has just rung me howling with laughter, but the wife is apparently not at all amused. I know [I am being unreasonable] but this is a public service announcement to double check your basket when you're sending things to someone else. Jesus."

She then included a picture of the item. The mum's post was met with heaps of responses from fellow Mumsnet users, keen to share their thoughts.

One said: "Ok honestly that is hilarious, I'm with the dad, I'd be howling. I thought you were going to say it was a massive d***o or something, but that is just funny. Suggest perhaps sending an apology card and chocolate to mum, definitely not W****r chocolate though!"

Another said: "This is hilarious thank you OP [original poster] for giving me a laugh this morning". A third commented: "I'm sorry but this has me howling".

One Mumsnet user said: "That's hilarious. Gosh, I've nearly done this so many times. Usually though it's something mundane like nail oil." And another said: "I think she'd only be upset if she thought it was on purpose. If it's an accident how can you be upset? Does she like you?"

In a follow up comment, the mum added: "I'm hoping she sees the funny side eventually but the even more uptight grandparents are there for the occasion which has made things worse. The dad is at work and got an irate phone call, he thinks it's hilarious but will have to stop laughing before he gets home".

At the time of writing, 77% of Mumsnet users voted the mum was not being unreasonable.
