Mum makes amazing McDonald's 'fakeaway' to cheer her kids up during lockdown

If your family is craving McDonald’s, KFC or Burger King, take inspiration from this creative mum, who didn’t let the coronavirus lockdown stop her kids enjoying some chicken nuggets.

Megan Paley, 31, decided to create a DIY McDonald’s takeaway to cheer up her kids in lockdown.

The stay-at-home mum of two told money-saving community LatestDeals.co.uk: "My son Ben, 10, is autistic and loves a McDonald's. I decided to make DIY McDonald's to give my children a small bit of their normal lives back.

"I looked up a template for the chip box online and copied it and coloured it in. We just grabbed some frozen chips, nuggets and burgers from M&S and just made the same order they get when they go.

"It cost us the piece of card and felt tip ink as we already had the ingredients in, so it cost us nothing in total!"

She added: "I now know that they [McDonald's] do a printable version online so would probably be easier to do that but I didn’t know about those at the time."

Megan says her son was delighted with the homemade fast food, and that it cheered up her kids during what is a trying time.

"Ben absolutely loved it. He was very impressed and has asked for it to be a regular thing during lockdown," she said.

Adding: "We did it as we feel keeping a sense of normality is important when life throws you a curveball. Our kids had already gone through so much change with schools closing and not being able to see their friends and we just wanted to give them something they might usually do for a treat.

"Being able to give them that little bit of happiness is great when you cannot stick to your old routines."

Co-founder of LatestDeals.co.uk, Tom Church, commentED: "Months ago, no one could have predicted that something as normal as going to McDonald’s for a burger would be impossible.

"I love Megan’s solution to yet another problem coronavirus is giving families - her DIY McDonald's is sure to put a smile on anyone’s face, and if you have the food at home already, it’s totally free to make!

"Other fakeaway ideas might include a cheeky Nando's (you can buy the sauce in the supermarket), a Subway, or making your own Domino's pizza box."
