When you're young, your parents help you do almost everything, including bathing and washing your hair.
But as you grow older, you become more independent and are able to do these tasks on your own.
However one mother has revealed she never stopped washing her daughter, who is now 19 years old, reports The Daily Star.
The 55-year-old American parent, known only as Mary, appeared on TLC's reality TV show sMothered where she admitted to showering with her teenage daughter, Brittani, each morning.
Mary and Brittani live together in Jensen Beach, Florida and they say that their joint showers are the "best way to start the day".
In a clip from the show, Brittani can be seen getting into the shower.
Shortly after she turns on the water, Mary strips off and enters the shower, saying: "Move over honey".
The mum then begins to shampoo her daughter's hair, before washing her back, using a loofah.
She tells the teen: "You need to tan or something, honey. You're so white."
Mary says she's been taking showers with her daughter since the young woman was five.
In her opinion, she doesn't see anything wrong with it.
She explained: "I have been taking showers and helping Brittani since she was five.
"I’m just a doting mum! I don't believe I set out to have a relationship this close to Brittani, it's something that was supposed to be."
Brittani added that she really enjoys her mum's help in the shower and that she has no intention of moving out anytime soon.
"When my mom does simple things like washing my hair or my body, it makes me feel comforted," she said.
"I’m only 19, I haven't moved away. If that was the case, she would probably die from separation anxiety."
These two aren't the only mother and daughter on the show who have an unbelievably close bond.
Other episodes saw another young woman take her mother on a date with her.
Similarly, a woman named Kathy and her daughter Christine showed off their relationship in which they have no boundaries and were quite happy to gossip about the size of their lovers' penises and share tips on how to spice things up in the bedroom.
