Mum listened on phone as knifeman chased terrified daughter home from work in Swansea

A woman was chased by a man armed with a knife while walking home from work - as her horrified mother listened in on her mobile phone.

The 20-year-old was walking home along Fabian Way from a late shift at Admiral in SA1 in Swansea , when she encountered the man with a local accent - who she said spoke about stabbing her.

She immediately took flight in the direction of her home in Port Tennant , while calling relatives and her boyfriend on her phone, as she was being pursued.

“Everything was a bit of a blur," said the woman, who did not want to be named.

“I was walking home and I could see a man walking towards me, who was obviously on something. He had what seemed to be a small kitchen knife.

“I was on the phone speaking to my sister and as I got closer to the man I told her to be quiet. The man said ‘you are lucky I do not stab you’, and then started chasing me.

“I called my boyfriend who came out of the house to find me.

“I lost him by running down an alleyway. It was absolutely terrifying. It usually takes me about five minutes to walk home, and I did it in about thirty seconds.

“I’ve been really down about it since. I’m already moving out because I don’t want to live near here anymore - our tenancy was coming to an end anyway.

“But I’ve been struggling ever since. I don’t feel comfortable out walking with the public”.

The victim’s mother, who was with her other daughter at the time and heard the phone conversation, added: “I was freaking out hearing her panic and scream. I thought she was going to be stabbed, and I couldn’t help her.

“Unbearable panic went through me. I was just screaming at her to run and get in a shop and call the police”.

Following the incident, the woman said her employer, Admiral, had been supportive, with colleagues providing her with lifts home, as well as giving her a panic alarm.

The suspect is described as being white, in his mid thirties, and was wearing a grey tracksuit. He also spoke with a Swansea/Port Tennant accent.
