Mum left 'starving' after paying £10 for vegan full English at Center Parcs

A woman was left 'starving' after she shelled out £10 for a vegan breakfast.

Jennifer Carr was hugely disappointed when the meat and animal product free dish she ordered arrived at her table at Center Parcs in Sherwood Forest.

The 37-year-old had forked out £10 for a vegan start to her day but was not rewarded with the kind of sumptuous plate she was expecting.

What arrived was half a cooked tomato, half a slice of toast, one mushroom, two hash browns, beans and four slices of pepper.

To rub salt into the wound, Jennifer's son received a meat based full English that was considerably bigger for the same price.

The items he received barely fit onto the plate.

Jennifer, from Stirling, Scotland, would go on to be let down further by a vegan dish at the park's Pancake House.

It consisted solely of raw vegetables inside a crepe, she said.

"I was really quite shocked. It was pretty small, so we had to order extra mushrooms, beans and tomatoes on top," Jennifer said, The Sun reported.

"When we ordered on the app, it gave us the option of making the vegetarian breakfast vegan so we chose that, but that just meant they removed the egg and the vegetarian sausage and substituted them with four small slices of pepper - not even an extra mushroom.

"I looked at it and thought, I've paid ten pounds for this, and we were starving afterwards."

A spokesperson for Center Parcs said that the breakfast was "clearly not up to our usual high standards".

They added: "We are in the process of reviewing our vegan offering and will be introducing new dishes very soon."

It was announced yesterday that Center Parcs will be cutting the prices of stays across its British centres until 2021.

Cost reductions in on-site restaurants will also be implemented.

A statement from Center Parcs said: "We welcome the reduction in VAT recently announced for the leisure, tourism and hospitality sector, at a time when the sector is managing significantly reduced capacity and demand.

"Center Parcs will be reducing prices in recognition of the change in VAT, for both new short break bookings (new bookings from 15 July 2020 – 12 January 2021 for arrivals between those same dates) and applicable restaurant prices."
