Mum left red-faced after attempt to 'creep' on handsome co-worker backfires

Workplace crushes aren't uncommon, but you have to be careful when you navigate the world of dating on the job - especially when you're still trying to work out if any romantic feelings are mutual.

One woman on Mumsnet has found out just how tough it can be to try and be discreet with your office pining after she tried to "creep" on her "handsome co-worker", only to have her covert operation completely backfire.

The mum explained her colleague was on the phone with someone and had given them his postcode, which had prompted the woman to put the personal detail into her phone's map function so she could find out where he lived.

But instead of being silently creepy like she had hoped, her phone decided to plot against her - as she accidentally triggered the GPS within the map and a robotic voice told the entire office she was planning to head to her co-worker's house.

In a post titled, "To have done the most embarrassing thing ever", she explained: "This happened about an hour ago and I think I need to go home and never come back to the office again.

"I work with a very very very handsome man. He was on the phone in the office this morning trying to sort out someone to come and fix his boiler.

"He happened to say his postcode and I, being the creepy wee lady I am, put it into maps on my phone to see where he lived.

"For some reason, and I still don't know why, my phone blared out: Starting route from 'current location' to 'handsome man's postcode'.

"I was 6 feet away in a quiet office. He turned to look and I couldn’t even look up for wanting the ground to swallow me whole. How do I come back from this?"

Commenters on the Mumsnet post were sympathetic to the mum's hilarious blunder, with many of them suggesting she "style it out" by just pretending her Siri picked up on his voice.

One person said: "Oh my god that's horrendous and something that would happen to me so I am dying for you. Definitely Siri's fault!"

As another suggested: "Style it out. Siri must have picked him up saying his postcode. Really must remember to lock your phone before you put it in your bag..."

While others attempted to make her feel better by sharing their own embarrassing romance stories.

Someone posted: "Years ago, I was texting my friend about this boy I really liked and accidentally sent it to him. A few days later I saw him and he asked me if I had something to tell him, and I said no and left it at that."

And someone else wrote: "In my teens when everyone smoked, I tried to casually impress a boy by pulling my cigarettes out of my bag without looking at them or him.

"I flipped the lid open shook them loose and said, 'Help yourself'. He said 'Er no thanks'. I had just offered him a selection of brightly wrapped mini tampons."
