Mum left 'looking like Scar from Lion King' after eyebrow tint goes terribly wrong

A woman was left 'looking like Scar from Lion King' after a spontaneous eyebrow treatment gave her arched brows like the Disney villain.

Jennifer Grajeda, a 40-year-old mum from Chicago, USA, had been growing her eyebrows out but decided to have them threaded and tinted on a whim during a shopping trip last month.

Her eyebrows did not take well to the treatment and became red and irritated almost immediately after the work, leaving her with permanent damage.

Things got even worse the following morning as her eyebrows began to seep orange fluid before swelling up like 'marshmallows.'

Horrifyingly, Jennifer's eyes swelled up so much that she could barely see, leaving them almost completely shut for hours on end.

Detailing her 'terrifying' ordeal, the mum explained: "When I woke up that morning [the morning after] I felt that I looked like Scar from the Lion King because of how his eyebrows are raised and face is squished.

"At their most swollen I could barely see, it was terrifying."

Mum of two Jennifer was then taken to A&E where she was given an antihistamine injection to control the swelling, but the seeping continued until the whole area had scabbed over.

Doctors warned her that her eyebrows may fall out and not grow back, and stressed that the allergic reaction could also cause scarring.

The woman, who works in marketing, said the swelling did not go down until a week or so after she had the brow treatment done.

Even more concerningly, her eyebrows took over a fortnight to heal - leaving her resembling the iconic Disney villain.

After the terrible ordeal, Jennifer is now hoping to raise awareness for people looking to get similar procedures done for the first time.

The mum-of-two had never had an allergic reaction or eye injury before, so was quite shocked and scared by how easily it could happen.

"She threaded my eyebrows and I wasn't thinking of tinting them when I sat down but she offered, so I figured I'd give it a try," Jennifer explained.

"Unfortunately it didn't work out to the best of my advantage. I don't know if it was because she had threaded them first and my follicles were open.

"She took it off and I immediately felt my skin not responding too well so I went home and scrubbed my eyebrows to try and get it off as best as I could."

Despite her best efforts, Jennifer was unable to avoid the severe reaction to the treatment that left her face sore and swollen.

"I didn't want to be mad at the woman that had offered the treatment. But in the back of my mind I was just a little upset that she wasn't more vigilant by asking 'are you allergic to hair dye? Have you ever had a reaction before? Let's test this on your skin first'," she shared.

"I'm a 40-year-old woman and should have known better but life happens, we don't expect these things to happen."

After taking a fortnight to heal, the mum's eyebrow hairs are luckily starting to grow back, but she has been left with some scarring.

"I wanted to share my experience for people facing the same thing or for someone who's never done the treatment before to really think twice and be an advocate for your own health and safety."
