Mum left in tears over father-in-law's 'disgusting' comments while she was breastfeeding

A mum has been left distraught after her father-in-law made vile comments to her as she breastfed her baby son.

The shocking incident was revealed by the woman's husband who forced his father to apologise to his upset wife.

Posting on Reddit's Am I The A**hole forum,  the man said his parents popped in unannounced and found his wife feeding their baby.

He said his father then made two inappropriate comments about his wife's breasts, leaving her feeling upset and uncomfortable in her own home.

The man said: "On Friday night my parents dropped by our house on short notice. We weren't really prepared for them but we let them in any way.

"My wife was sitting in a chair in our living room breastfeeding our son when my dad walked in. He did not see anything other than my wife's boob (not nipple), but based on that he decided he had to comment so he told her that he could see why his grandson was so well fed.

"Then when my mom walked in he told her something like 'we don't have to worry about John starving by the looks of it'.

"My wife is very insecure about her body post-baby, so she was very upset and in tears."

After demanding his father apologise to his wife, the wife accepted it and the family moved on.

However, a few days later he found out that his wife had secretly sent her father-in-law a message, "raking him over the coals for what he said and telling him he was a pervert, disgusting and she didn't want him in her home again for a long time".

While the husband thinks his dad was an "a**hole" for making the comments, he says he thinks his wife was in the wrong for bringing it up again after he apologised.

The man's post received hundreds of commetns from outraged and horrifed mothers who backed up his wife.

One person said: "Tbh I’m on your wife’s side. Comments like those from men make women feel extremely vulnerable and uncomfortable.

"We deal with that on a daily basis, and to have that happen to you in your own home is horrible.

A third of new mums said they had been 'eyed up' by someone they didn't know (Getty Images)

"What your dad did is sexual harassment and something he could get fired over if it happened in the office.

"He sexualized your wife while she was feeding your child. Read that again.

"Doesn’t matter if he apologised, your wife does NOT feel safe around him right now and you 100% need to respect that. If my FIL said that to me I wouldn’t want him around me either and wouldn’t trust or feel comfortable with him probably ever again honestly.

"What he did was shameful and your wife has every right to set boundaries. You need to be on her side."

A second added: "My jaw actually dropped when I heard what he said. What a disgusting thing to say. Absolutely sexual harassment."

A third said: "I was expecting it to be some stupid comment about how she should cover-up, which is ridiculous too, but his comments were disgusting. The wife should never feel uncomfortable in her own home."

Another person blasted the  father-in-law's comments as "gross" and told the husband not to "normalise" that kind of behaviour.
