A Brisbane mum was left stunned and heartbroken after discovering her two young daughters had given each other dramatic DIY haircuts while she was upstairs changing the bedsheets. Stephanie Mullins had only left the girls, aged two and three, alone for a few minutes, trusting they were safely occupied with an episode of Peppa Pig. But things went suspiciously quiet.
“I called out and I heard them cry out ‘runnnnnnn!’ to each other, so I rushed down, as I knew something was up,” the 38-year-old told Newsweek.
What she found was, in her own words, a “trail of destruction.” In a viral TikTok clip, Stephanie showed clumps of hair scattered across the floor as she followed the chaos through the house. But nothing prepared her for the sight of her daughters’ new looks.
Her toddlers, who once had beautiful, long hair and matching bangs, were now sporting uneven, jagged mullets. “One has jagged, micro bangs and random chunks missing, and the other has tracks and the most extreme mullet I have ever seen,” she said. “I couldn’t even get angry at them, I was too upset, so they all just cuddled me.”
Stephanie described the girls as bold, curious, and always into mischief together. This time, their game of “pretend salon” got a little too real. “They weren’t even upset—they were genuinely proud of their work,” she added.
The video has now racked up 1.5 million views and over 50,000 likes on TikTok, with hundreds of parents chiming in with similar horror stories. “My cousin cut my fringe to the root two weeks before my parents’ wedding,” one user shared. Another admitted: “My sister asked me for a haircut… turned into a nightmare for my mum.”
Many reassured Stephanie that she’d one day look back and laugh, even if it doesn’t feel that way now. “You will laugh about this!” one parent promised. Stephanie, who captioned her video with “Might laugh in 20 years,” admitted, “I am just extremely grateful that no one was injured, but I am yet to see the funny side.” For now, the shock is still fresh—but at least the internet is giving her a little solidarity (and a lot of hair-raising memories to come).
