Mum Left in Tears After Benidorm Horror—Defies Family to Blow £5K on Risky Turkey Surgery

Carla White says the £5,000 she spent on cosmetic surgery in Turkey was the best money she’s ever spent — and it’s hard to argue with her. The 33-year-old mum from Glasgow had already lost nine stone after undergoing gastric sleeve surgery, but was left with severe excess skin that knocked her confidence just as much as when she weighed nearly 22 stone.

The turning point came during a trip to Benidorm. “I got rejected from one of the rollercoasters,” Carla recalled. “I sat crying at the bottom – I was so embarrassed. I made sure to clean my tears away before they got off. But I never forget that feeling – I wouldn’t wish it on anyone”, reported the Manchester Evening News.

That moment stuck with her. After years of battling with her weight and all the physical discomfort that came with it, including infections from skin folds and constant self-consciousness, she decided to go all in on a “mummy makeover.” It included a breast uplift, tummy tuck, and 360-degree liposuction, all done in one go at a clinic in Izmir, Turkey, in October 2023.

Despite the risks and some concern from her dad and nana, Carla was determined. “I never really told a lot of people because I was aware of it being quite controversial,” she said. “I didn’t want anyone giving me doubts or fears, so I kept it very hush. They trusted me to make the right decision.”

The recovery wasn’t exactly easy, but it was smoother than she expected. “I had a C-section, so found the tummy tuck pain very similar to that. The lipo areas were really tender, and sleeping was tough for a few weeks. Wearing the compression garments for months was a bit of a pain, and I had weekly lymphatic drainage massages for the fluid.”

Now, she says, the transformation has been worth every bit of discomfort. “I was really swollen initially, and never really saw the results instantly, which was quite hard for me.” But today, Carla says she feels more confident, healthier, and genuinely excited about life again.

Gone are the days of hiding in leggings and oversized clothes. Now, she’s gearing up for holidays in Tunisia and Salou — and for the first time, she’s only packing bikinis. “It’s good going to raves, shopping in normal clothes shops, and running about with my wee boy knowing I won’t be embarrassed by my skin,” she said. “It’s not such a stress anymore. Woohoo!”
