Mum left 'agitated' by school run behaviour she sees every day

A mum who took to Facebook to voice her concern at what she saw on her school run was overwhelmed with replies.

The woman claims she was 'agitated' by the behaviour of other parents on the school run, and posted her fears for the safety of children on social media.

She was then inundated with other parents sharing their thoughts and opinions on the matter.

The post read: "Hi, I have a question, school run!

"Does anyone else get agitated by parents getting their kids out of the car roadside, they are letting their kids get out of the car into the middle of a road? Or having the car door wide open, roadside, fixing the seat belt or baby seat.

"I just think it's so unsafe and not teachings kids about road safety??.

"It should be illegal in my eyes.

"What's your thoughts. Lol."

According to the analysis of more than 600,000 accidents by insurance company Churchill, 10,100 primary age children have been hit by vehicles in the UK since 2017 – around seven a day. More than 2,900 accidents have happened during school pick-up and drop-off times.

Not everyone agreed with the opinion of the original post, with many believing there is no alternative when dropping kids off at school.

One comment read: "The safest way for me to do the school run is to get my daughter out of her seat, which is roadside, then take her round to the kerb side where I have her safe with me whilst I get her brother out.

"The alternative would be taking him into the road to get her out. Do you even have multiple children in car seats? "

One mum commented: "Sometimes you don't have a choice. But what I do do as a considerate human being, if I see someone else doing it I stop my car and let them deal with their kids safely. Which I would hope most people would considering there is no 'safe' parking around schools."

One parent added "Do you think us parents can help this?If we have two car seats in the car? My thought is keep it to yourself because it really can’t be helped with a baby in a car seat a four-year-old on the other side."
