Mum leaves daughter, 14, in charge of robot baby - with disastrous results

A mum-of-four has revealed what happened when her teenage daughter had to look after a robot baby - with disastrous results.

Faced with the stark realities of motherhood, 14-year-old Olivia was left sleep deprived and crying for help from her mum at 3am.

The teen had opted to take the early childhood education course instead of engineering because she thought it would be easier.

And one of the course projects was to look after baby simulation doll William.

Mum Lawren Galloway, 38, shared a funny Facebook post about the experience, which led to the teen's plight being shared across the US.

Many parents saying the class should be compulsory to prepare adolescents for parenthood in later life.

Lawren wrote: "Meet William. He’s Olivia’s interactive baby assignment for her Early Childhood Education Class.

"Now, meet Olivia with William. She’s had him since Friday night. She is absolutely exhausted and ready to quit the class and give William back. Maybe even throw him back

"It’s definitely been a learning experience. My favorite moment so far is when she came into my room last night around 3 am.

"She was crying real tears while feeding him his bottle. She was begging me to help her because she just wanted to get some sleep. Yeah, no."

Lawren was also at home caring for a newborn, one-month-old daughter Violet, so could really feel the trauma Olivia was facing.

Speaking to the Today show in the US, Lawren said: "The baby and the robot were crying in unison that night.

"Then (Olivia) kept coming in the room and she had moments where she was crying out of exhaustion.

"On Sunday I made a big Southern-style dinner, and as soon as I set the table, the robot baby started crying.

"I'm telling you, it's like it knew that Olivia was sitting down to have her dinner. She had to microwave her dinner three or four times because she had to feed the baby or burp the baby or rock the baby."

Olivia added: "It was horrible. Sometimes I would just be crying in the middle of the night because it would not stop. It also would not burp.

"It takes like 40 minutes of just hitting it in the back to get it to burp. Then it finally burps, and then 10 minutes later it wants to do the whole thing over again. I'm so tired."

Unfortunately, Olivia failed her assignment with William for her class at Richmond High School in Georgia, USA.

But after begging teachers for another chance, she cared for baby John for another long weekend and passed the class.

Mum Lawren  added: "You would think that with all of her siblings that Olivia would have some kind of clue, but she was completely clueless.

"Just because a child grows up with siblings, it doesn't mean they're ready for parenthood at all."

And Olivia added: "I don't ever want to have kids because of that thing."
