Mum inspired by Mrs Hinch transforms backyard into Costa Del Sol retreat on low budget

A mum inspired by Mrs Hinch transformed her backyard into a beautiful Spanish-style retreat on a budget.

When Samantha Ashley first moved into her home in Warrington in 2018, her backyard was a dumping ground which had been left neglected.

The 45-year-old started renovating the space by clearing out the rubbish, laying down some AstroTurf and getting her brother to render the brickwork.

But it was during lockdown that Samantha really got inspired, and she decided to transform the yard into a stunning retreat, modelled on her favourite holiday resort in the Costa Del Sol.

And she did it all on a budget, using items from B&M, Home Bargains, The Range and independent shops.

Samantha told the ECHO: "The before photos show what it was like when I first moved in.

"I thought 'it's got quite a lot of potential' once I'd cleared the stuff out of it.

"I've done a lot more to it during lockdown."

Samantha said: "The fact that we haven't been able to go out and do what we normally do, has certainly motivated me.

"I knew I wasn't going to be able to go on holiday this year, so I thought I'd create my own.

"There's a village in Spain in the Costa Del Sol called Mijas, where me and my daughter go to on holiday once a year. I love the way of life over there."

To recreate the Spanish village in her backyard, Samantha gave the walls a lick of white paint and started buying a range of hanging plants and an olive tree.

Photos show the amazing transformation and Samatha's eye for detail, including a stylish rug and a rattan coffee table which cost £40 from Ebay.

The yard has also been kitted out with candles, garden ornaments and a bistro set from B&M for £40.

The total cost of the renovation came in at between £250 and £300.

Samantha has documented the transformation on her Instragram page @sams_little_home, which she was inspired to set up by Mrs Hinch.

In the space of two years she has grown an impressive following of over 17,000 and now collaborates with different independent companies.

Samantha said: "I live on my own so I do everything on a budget. You don't have to spend the earth.

"I'm a big fan of Home Bargains, B&M and The Range, so everything has come from a combination of those places and independent businesses who I also like to support.

"Mrs Hinch was the inspiration. I followed her for a good year before I set up my own Instagram account, it definitely gave me the confidence to do it."

She added: "I saw my house as a blank canvas and I wanted to document that. It's been two years now and the way it's grown has been phenomenal.

"There's a great community on Instagram and the support from people has been fantastic."
