Mum in stitches over toddler's Mother's Day gifts - from hazelnut to Easter egg piece

If you're a mum celebrating Mother's Day today, you may have woken up to flowers or a box of chocolates from your children to thank you for all the hard work you do.

But one mum has been left in stitches after her four-year-old child presented her with a unique array of gifts for her special day - including one single hazelnut and a small piece of an Easter egg with what appeared to be teeth marks in it.

The woman's husband posted a picture of her haul on Reddit, where he jokingly described them as "fine gifts".

And alongside the nut and the half-eaten chocolate was a plastic cup containing some dubious green liquid and a green plastic frog sitting on top, as well as, bizarrely, a trolley key and chain.

The child's dad captioned the image in his post: "The array of fine gifts our four-year-old just presented to my wife. Happy Mother's Day!"

Commenters were also left laughing, and while many of them questioned where a toddler would get their hands on a trolley key, others jokingly described the youngster as a "goblin".

One person said: "Great treasures! I assume your four-year-old is a goblin?"

While another added: "To be fair a trolley chain is a rare treasure for an adult, let alone a toddler."

And a third shared their own Mother's Day story, as they wrote: "I left my five-year-old write in his Mother's Day card this morning he put £1.27 in out of his money box."

"Good haul," someone else shared, "When my daughter was about four she presented me with a random present for no particular reason, [consisting of] her used plaster folded up and tied up with a tiny bit of tinsel. Bit gross but she thought it was amazing. Weirdo."

The dad also replied to several comments to clear up some confusion, as he revealed he and his child had found the trolley chain on the floor of the car park at their local Aldi, and said the liquid inside the cup was actually slime.

He also confirmed he had bought his wife a "giant bar of Galaxy and a bottle of strong drink" as her actual Mother's Day present.

"What more could a mother ask for?", he jokingly added.
