Mum in 'living nightmare' issues desperate appeal over daughter missing for a week

UPDATE: Katelan Coates has now been found safe and well, West Yorkshire Police said.

A mum has described her 'living nightmare' as her teenage daughter remains missing from home.

Katelan Coates is missing from home in Todmorden in West Yorkshire. The teenager was last seen outside Todmorden High School over a week ago on Tuesday morning (March 28) but she did not go to school that day.

Police said they believe she may have travelled to Manchester, Blackburn, Burnley or Bury. Katelan, who is around 5ft 5in tall and of medium build, was last seen wearing her school uniform – a black blazer, a blue and black tie and black leggings.

As concern grows over her whereabouts, Katelan's mum has now taken to social media to issue an appeal, YorkshireLive reports. She said her daughter 'had struggled with some personal difficulties lately'.

She added that she was 'adored and precious' and said the family were desperate to have her home. In a post on Facebook, Tina Coates wrote: "Our daughter Katelan has been missing since 8.30am Tuesday the 28th March.

"She is 14yrs old, about 5ft 5 and slim to medium build. She has struggled with some personal difficulties lately and many people are trying to help her.

"We're desperate for any news or sightings of her and urge people to share and help spread this message to bring our daughter to safety. If you are in touch with Katelan please let her know all anyone wants is for her safe return, she is not in trouble.

"She has travelled to Blackburn, Halifax. Manchester and Burnley previously. If you see her please ring the Police on 101/999 log 0509. Thank you."

Later, she added: "Our families lives changed into a living nightmare in a blink of an eye. Katelan is adored and soo precious to our family and friends. People know where she is and their silence is sooooooo wrong.

"If she used your phone she was messaging these people or they were messaging her, please let the Police know, yes you may be inconvenienced for a short time but potentially you could hold the key to vital information in locating and saving Katelan. Please ask yourselves wouldn't you want other's to do this for you and yours in this situation."
